Completed 2021
40,000 sf Adaptive Reuse of Manufacturing Structures
Design Architect: Deborah Berke Partners
Located in two former manufacturing plants in the Dixwell neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut, NXTHVN's core aim was to build an alternative model of art mentorship and career advising and provide opportunities for emerging local entrepreneurs.
The facility includes professional artist studios, a maker space, co-working spaces, a “great hall” that can accommodate events and performances, a 3D printing fabrication lab, gallery, and a café. The luminous new addition houses studios as well as apartments for artists-in-residence.
Industrial lighting are applied through out the space reminiscing the former ice cream and laboratory equipment factories. A state of art suspended track system with minimalistic aesthetic illuminates the exhibition spaces with high visual comfort and easy adjustability. Its interchangeable spherolit lens and various lumen package ensure flexibility for various activities and art displays in the doulbe height ceiling space.
